Paint not matching

Caliber Collision - Paint not matching
Caliber Collision - Paint not matching - Image 2

I took my car in for a minor bumper repair and got it back, but the paint didn't match correctly. This is not the first time that they have mismatched my paint, causing me significant inconvenience.

Why I went back, I don't know.

Now, they are giving me a hard time about correcting the color and saying that bumpers never match. I understand if it was off a little, but it's not.

Original review updated Feb 04, 2025

This review pertains to the location at 638 Goddard Ave Chesterfield, MO 63005.

I won't bore the reader by doing a copy/paste of the 4+ page written complaint I've sent to the CEO of State Farm to help that organization understand what incredibly horrible work Caliber Collision does as a preferred provider. Here are some of the select lowlights.

Note: there's more...

I was hit by some flying road debris on my way back to St Louis from Louisville on November 14, 2024. I was driving a garage-kept, immaculately-maintained BMW that's never been in an accident and had accrued just under 80k miles. A "cherry" vehicle all-around

Caliber Collision in Chesterfield, MO lowballed the initial estimate to make my preferred shop look worse so that State Farm could bully me into using them instead of the one I've used for the last dozen years and actually trust. The message was this: 'sure, you can get the repairs done for $4800 at your preferred shop but our estimate says $2800 so you're on the hook for the balance.' What a *** game to play!

They made me wait until 12/2/2024 to get in for the initial (lowball) estimate.

Then they made me wait for more than a month to drop off the vehicle. Of note, the initial estimate from my guys was less and they had promised the car back to me by the middle of December. They've never been late on any work I've contracted them to perform.

The manager at Caliber made me sign a statement that I was dropping off before the largest winter storm of the year for my own convenience and tried to refuse to start my rental car the same day for some made-up reason. I got my agent (she's the only bright light in this entire debacle!) on the phone and she set them straight.

In retrospect, had I not insisted on this in the interest of my own safety, I never would have made it to drop off as scheduled and suspect the shop didn't even open on 1/7 due to the storm. Given that most of Missouri was shut down until the 8th or 9th by the storm, this was unambiguously the right decision yet the shop wanted to fight me over dropping off early in the name of safety. Ridiculous!

Made me pre-pay the adder for OEM parts after arguing with me extensively over the issue. They tried to float every explanation under the sun for what amounted to incredibly poor adherence to any semblance of customer service.

They also tried to put junkyard parts on my never-been-in-an-accident cherry BMW. *** no! Worth noting, the amount I actually had to pay went down significantly when compared to their initial demand. Why?

Because I read their estimate and figured out really quickly they were quoting parts that don't actually go on my model. Once they fixed their error, the delta was much more manageable. That said, when you have possession of the vehicle (and therefore the VIN) it is absolutely inexcusable sloppiness to publish an estimate with parts for the wrong vehicle.

Called to tell me the vehicle was ready about two weeks ago but forgot to do the alignment...which has been in the scope of work for this claim from day one.

Alignment shop told me the check engine light was on when they dropped off my vehicle. I have a very good relationship with that shop and had them check the vehicle thoroughly.

Upon further investigation, the check engine light was due to Caliber failing to replace a sensor they had removed. They had to order a replacement sensor, which further delayed returning my vehicle.

Sensor arrived and was installed. I got another call on 1/30/2025 to come get the vehicle.

Upon arrival, the invoice was wrong. It was presented to me as just a signature page with verbal instructions to 'sign here so we can give you your car back.' They had misapplied the upcharge for OEM parts they extorted out of me before working on the car.

That was hidden in the pages they very clearly didn't want me to review before signing. I insisted on a corrected invoice and said it was *** they presented me an incorrect invoice. Desk clerk got indignant with me and said I had to speak with management and refused to hand me my keys, even after I had paid my deductible.

Upon inspection, I discovered the driver's front wheel was still scuffed, as it was in the pictures I took immediately after the accident and had provided to State Farm the same day. I called the shop's attention to the issue and they told me they "must have missed that" and thought they could get it covered under the original claim.

This was also part of the scope of work since the day of the accident.

I picked up the vehicle and discovered just how poorly Caliber performed the repairs. I have gaps on one side of the hood that are 2x the gaps on the other side. Gap between the front of the hood and fascia is huge!

Lower airdam not fully attached. I showed the pics to a BMW service advisor who I trust and he confirmed the gaps Caliber left are completely wrong.

What an utter *** show!

I do not recommend Caliber Collision. If possible, avoid this shop entirely.

My experience with them was extremely disappointing.

In September 2023, I was involved in a minor accident where my Toyota RAV4 was rear-ended. The impact pushed the rear door to the right, causing it to make a cracking noise. When I reported the damage to my insurance, they gave me two options: I could go to a Toyota dealership or Caliber Collision. Unfortunately, I chose Caliber Collision, thinking they could handle the repairs just as well.

I brought my car to Caliber on October 20.

They worked on the bumper and did something to the back door, which I thought had resolved the issues. However, within a few days, I noticed a new problem: the power lift-gate on my RAV4 was no longer working correctly. Most of the time, the door wouldnt open or close as it should, forcing me to operate it manually. Given my job, I need to open the hatchback 20 - 30 times a day, so this was a serious inconvenience.

Booking a follow-up appointment was another ordeal.

The customer service was unhelpful and often rude, making the entire process even more frustrating. Over the next year, I tried everything to get this issue resolved. I explained the problem multiple times, showed them videos, and consulted with other dealerships, but nothing worked. I was left with a poorly functioning car, even considering selling it just to be rid of the issue.

Finally, on November 22, 2024, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I ordered replacement struts from Amazon for $124, and, despite being a 73-year-old woman, I installed them myself in about two hours. Its honestly shameful that I had to fix my car on my own after a year of dealing with supposed professionals who couldnt figure out the issue.

So, decide for yourself, but I would urge anyone to think twice before choosing Caliber Collision.

Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Terrible customer service. If you have a choice of where to have your vehicle towed to after an accident, DO NOT have it towed here.

If possible, have it towed to your home or a nearby friend's home. All of my money change was STOLEN from my car. An expensive item was STOLEN. They LIE and tell you your vehicle was released, by myself, a whole day earlier than when I scheduled to get belongings out, when in fact, I never released it!!!

Why would I waste my time and gas and drive all the way there a day earlier to get my belongings then I scheduled, if I already released it??!! Makes no sense!!

Had it towed to one caliber for an estimate. Then they had me sign off to a different caliber that works on bmws more often they wrote up everything they could find.

My main concern was the coolant leak.

No where on the quote was it addressed. They removed front bumper and quarter panel and headlight. Then it sat for weeks.

I came and filled the reservoir with coolant and found the leak myself. They didnt care.

I got my car towed out of there and they couldnt produce all of my parts to my car.

And dont give two sh*ts.

The headlight being theee most expensive item on the entire quote. Was missing even noted that it mighta got trashed.

This is less than a month after getting back from them after it was gone for over a month getting the same bumper done. Smh. They still got repairs to fix and broke my infortainment system.

The manager pressed the NON touch screen stabbing it repeatedly killed pixels right in front of me

Never once insisting theyll replace it. Or cared to look for it.

Horrible services

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Hello,

I had my car in for service at your location #3004 on the 24 of October as per my insurance company, had to return since then and now the same thing is happening.

I never received a survey because from the beginning of service with the stuttering female in the office telling me I had to leave my car before they would order parts and I could not pay my deductible in advance they all had attitudes to include my service person Daniel Budd which never did anything as far as correspondence until I contacted the insurance company,

The last time my car was there I guess they had the same latino guy working on my car which left the bumper hanging off my car on both occasions.

I dont understand how my horn is continuously not working. I called the dealership because this car was just 6 months old, I was told they are doing something to short horn, I take it back had my service guy stated it was the fuse, well if it was the fuse why did yall take my bumper off again, and the reason I knew this is because again I had to wait because the passenger side bumper was hanging off.

This time I guess it was the manager driving my car around asking is everything ok really what i wanted to say was where you been hiding in your office.

I want my car fixed correctly. Ohh I never received a survey from the location, I wander why

Money stolen/work not completed/broke vehicle

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My truck had very minor scratching done to it while at a dealership. I read the reviews and decided to go with Caliber based on these reviews.

Giant mistake. I took my vehicle in and received an estimate of $5,600. I requested an estimate that was OVER the projected amount so there would be no surprises and was assured that this figure covered more than enough and it would be less than the amount estimated. Carmax did the damage to the vehicle so they were paying and I wanted to get approval for the number and info I recieved with them first.

Based off of the damage they said it was a very, very high estimate but if they were who I wanted to go with it was approved. I dropped my vehicle off at Caliber a couple days later and thats when the shady dealings began. I informed Caliber that Carmax was going to be responible for the bill and they wasted no time in sending a revised estimate that was $1,000 higher yet added no more work. Carmax and I decided that the dishonesty and shadiness of the company was not going to be someone we wanted to work with but they said they had already started the work and we decided to proceed cautiously.

Over the next couple weeks they sent Carmax 6 diferent estimates and continued to raise the price. When I went in to talk to the manager he tried to tough guy me and intimidate me when I expressed my concern about their honesty. When they finally finished the work I went to pick up my truck. The scratched areas they worked on with the paintwork had bubbles, divots and waves in the paint.

They said "give us 30 minutes and we will sand those out". They tried but were unable to. It still looked like garbage and they said if I wanted it fixed properly they would have to keep it another couple of weeks. They charged to spray in bed liner but did not do the whole bed as they stated was needed and they charged for.

They chipped and scratched my tailgate while inspecting it and did not fix it. They removed the door handle and broke it and just put it back on cracked. My vehicle is in almost as bad a shape in the repaired areas as when I left it and worse shape in others as when I left it. I went up the management line and demanded that they stick to the original price and they agreed that I was dealt with unethically and dishonestly.

They refunded the extra $1,700 that was wrongly charged and paid They were still paid the original $5,600 and my vehicle still looks bad and is broken and chipped. I have pictures, texts, emails and recordings of the whole process and have ensured there is nothing but accurate information detailed in this review. I am entitled to a refund of the amount paid so I can have my vehicle fixed as it was supposed to be fixed and to repair the broken and chipped areas that were caused by poor workmanship. I will not stop pursuing this until the damage that has been done to my vehicle is fixed and the money taken from me for work that was not performed is returned.

I have filed a BBB report and will continue to leave reviews as many places as possible. Carmax has asked me to inform them of the resolution and/or lack of a resolution so they can determine whether or not to continue doing business with Caliber Collision.

Service Improving

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My car was repaired at Caliber Collision which took 7 months to fix. After I received it back last October 2023, it had problems.

I took it back to the Caliber Collision location (Costa Mesa, CA North - Logan Ave), and they diagnosed it and said theyd order the parts. Almost a year later, my car has not been repaired. So last week after mishaps at the Costa Mesa North location, I called their corporate line & left a review here,

Since then the regional manager reached out and scheduled for me to meet the manager at their 17th Street, NB location. The regional manager also was present.

They inspected my car and told me their plans. The set me up in a mini van at Enterprise that will fit my family. I am currently waiting at Enterprise and am hopeful my vehicle will be fully repaired in a week or two.

If they do repair my car, I will up the stars even more.

I did receive very good service from the two managers this morning. So I remain very hopeful

Terrible Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Sep 09, 2024

Terrible. Although someone did call me back, they said a regional manager would call me and I still haven’t heard back from them more than 3 business days later. So frustrating.

Original review Sep 04, 2024
I was in an accident on April 1, 2023. Although I was told several times that my car would be repaired by a certain date, the two dirt time extended to around 7 months.
Once my car was finally returned in October of 2024, there were several mechanical as well as cosmetic problems.

I returned to the car to the Csliber Collison (North Costa Mesa, CA) that did the repairs and was told theyd order the parts and call me when the parts came in.
Months passed and Everytime I called for an update, my call either went unanswered or I was told that the parts werent in yet.
Finally in June of 2024, I took my car into see the general manager of the location, Kyle, after he examined the car, he said hed order the parts and I was to bring the vehicle back in for the repairs.
However the same methods prevailed, my calls went ignored, unreturned and/or I was told the parts werent in yet.
When I finally got a hold of Kyle late August 2024, I made an appointment for this last Monday, 9/2/24. I came in and the part Kyle ordered didnt fit and he told me to come back today at 9 am when his mechanics would be in.
I have theee kids in school and take full time care of my mother with dementia. So when I recieved a text from Kyle this morning at 7:53 am, I was already on the road. His text said his mechanics would not be in today and neither would he and to come back tomorrow.
It has been almost a year since my vehicle was returned from Caliber Collision after it being at the shop for about 7 months.

My vehicle was returned damaged. The battery went dead the very next morning after I received the car back making me think it was just rotting away at the shop for most of the 7months it was there.

Perhaps I am wrong, but it has not yet been repaired properly since the minute it went into the shop.
Also, I feel like I am not important and can be easily pushed over because Im a single mom who knows nada about automobiles.
Thank you kindly for your time.
***Caliber Collision did cell me today from and took a report. They were very nice and told me that their regional manager will contact me.

Overcharging and incomplete work

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was referred to Calber auto body from my insurance company, Geico when my SUV was involved in a minor accident. All I had was a minor dent in the hood and some scratches and scrapes to the side.

The advisor they Caliber assigned to me said she would buff out the scratches and apply touch up paint to the scraped off parts and the actual mechanics would fix the dented hood. The cost was $950!! Which was all out of pocket because my deductible was $2500.. the only good thing was they were very quick and my car was ready the very next day ..

the dented hood looked really good, and the scratches did come out .. but the touch up paint that was applied to the little scrapes was very visible , looking like white out was used or some cheap paint that was nowhere near the color of my car (white)! And there was damage under the drivers side front bumper that they didnt see and didnt fix!

So no I have ti get that fixed .. but I will definitely not be taking it back there!
